Acidophilus and Yeast Infections

Yeast is a bad fungal bug that can really mess with your body's balance.  In a lot of cases, it causes itching and white growths in sensitive areas such as on the genitals or in the mouth.

The nice thing about yeast is that is is a opportunistic disease, so you are more apt to see the growth at times when your body is run down and its immune defenses are compromised.  In fact, severe yeast infections can be a sign of other diseases such as Diabetes, Cancer or HIV. So if you have an intense infection, it is important to get a Doctor check up to look for other problems.

Yeast infections can also come from long-term drug treatments.  Antibiotics can save lives, but they also destroy the normal bacteria in your body.  This tends to leave gaps in your body's flora that yeast just loves to grow into and replace.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is, in many ways, the perfect weapon against Candidas Albanis. It is easily purchased and can be cheaply taken in large quantities to help ward off yeast infections.

Yogurt And Yeast Infections

The trick here is to use plain unsweetened  yogurt since sugar feeds yeast.  However, yogurt is full of the good acidophilus bacteria and eating 8 oz of it daily has been proven to help reduce the risk of a yeast infection, or even reverse a yeast infection already in progress.

Some people have recommended that women apply it topically for vaginal yeast infections, but it may be hard for that to have the same  affect for men due to the difference in anatomy.  However, there is nothing wrong with using yogurt as an oral supplement to help ward off systemic yeast infections.
